Blount, a local leader in philanthropy and financial management, is stepping down from his role at the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation effective September 1, 2010.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Mr. Blount joined Miller Foundation as Vice President upon its founding in December of 2001, providing critical insight and direction to the Foundation’s development. Bill was a longtime close friend and colleague of James F. Miller, who named both Mr. Blount and Charles Putney as lifetime trustees to the foundation he established.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Charles Putney, President of the foundation, said “Bill has provided nine years of very valuable service to Miller through his helpful financial insights and thoughtful contributions in developing basic operating policies and grant-making practices.”</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">A graduate of Grant High School in Portland, Mr. Blount received both his A.B. in economics in 1952 and his M.B.A in 1957 from Stanford University.  He is also a veteran of the Korean War, where he served as an aircraft carrier deck officer and was later assigned to the staff of the Commander-in-Chief Pacific Fleet, Hawaii.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Bill is a lifetime member of the Stanford Alumni Association, Trustee (emeritus) of the Doernbecher (OHSU) Foundation, Life Trustee of Lewis and Clark College, and Overseer at The Hoover Institution, Stanford University.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Mr. Blount continues to remain active in his role at UBS Financial Services, where he has worked as a successful financial advisor for over 50 years.</p>

Miller Foundation is proud to welcome Mr. William R. Swindells as the newest member to its board of directors, effective September 1, 2010. Mr. Swindells is joining the board as Mr. Bill Blount steps-down from foundation service. Mr. Swindells brings to Miller Foundation a unique blend of business expertise and non-profit service.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">William received his bachelor’s degree in economics in 1979 from the University of Oregon and his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business in 1983. He went on to build his career in the areas of start-up management, real estate development, corporate finance and lending.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Prior to joining Miller Foundation, William has distinguished experience in the non-profit sector, serving as board chair for Clackamas Community College Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, University of Oregon Foundation and Oregon Public Broadcasting.  He currently serves on the board of Trillium Family Services and the Lake Oswego School Board.  His philanthropic experience includes serving as Trustee for the Ann and Bill Swindells Charitable Trust and volunteering for the Oregon Community Foundation.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Mr. Swindells currently works as an independent investor and developer.</p>
