General operating support was provided to Genesis Summer Reading Academy through Miller Foundation's Education grant program.
"The Genesis Reading Academy equips and empowers students from traditionally underserved communities to overcome barriers that prevent meaningful academic achievement. Through their dynamic interaction with our innovative approach to reading instruction and literacy development, Genesis students begin to command the skills and tools necessary to cultivate curiosity and access culturally relevant knowledge across academic disciplines. Through our intentional school-family partnerships, Genesis students learn how to increase their executive functioning, develop healthy relationships, and build resiliency, animating the Genesis student’s excitement to go to school with the will to learn.
There is no cost to families to access the Genesis Reading Academy and its services.
The Genesis Reading Academy is unique in our community in that we intentionally target historically underrepresented populations and the youngest students within those populations with a singular academic focus: developing foundational reading and literacy skills. Our approach to reading instruction is evidence-based, yet is also dynamic and fluid in incorporating evidence-based playful learning principles, while emphasizing trauma-informed teaching and learning strategies and interventions. The Genesis Reading Academy understands who its students are, the nature of the obstacles they face, and how to help students navigate those challenges in healthy and empowering ways."
